On Sunday, June 8, popular LGBTQ night club Rain will kick off a new series of live music. Curated by Neil Diaz PResents, a two band bill is currently scheduled through the end of August. The June 8 kickoff will feature Austin-based pop singer Serafia and nu-wave duo Night Drive.
Serafia, pronounced like “Sir-RawFia,” is known around town by many as Serafia Jane. A Texas State alumnus and California native, Serafia is the self-proclaimed “Soul Sister of EDM” and has been locally tagged by some as “The Young Sade.” Her background is in jazz, blues and soul. She released her most recent EP Touching My Soul last fall which you can stream here. Serafia will perform at 9:30 p.m.
Night Drive is composed of Houston’s Brandon Duhon and Austin’s Rodney Connell (formerly of MoTeL Aviv). Their music is reminiscent of early ’80s dark wave and synth-pop alike, and draws influences from groups like The Knife, The Drums, New Order and LCD Soundsystem, The group kicked off the year performing at the January Red Bull Sound Select showcase and recently opened for Trust at Red 7. According to the official press release, the evening will also feature a variety of booths featuring games and interactive entertainment from Q-Toys the stylish and sassy adult toy boutique, complimentary rocker du’s from Beauty by Jen Casey, complimentary rock star make up by Jen Cunningham, anti-stigma mental health booth by New Milestones Foundation, and Photography by Tilted Pix.
