The June installment of the popular Red Bull Sound Select: Austin showcases happens Friday, June 6, at Mohawk. Unlike previous Red Bull Sound Select: Austin showcases, this one takes a break from the local talent and gets a little more hardcore as Richmond-based speed metal outfit Municipal Waste headline. Curated by Transmission Events, this showcase finally gives the black t-shirt crowd a reason to be excited about the series.
Formed in 2000, Municipal Waste is one of a handful of bands responsible for the continued popularity of the crossover thrash genre. Lead by founding member and lead vocalist Tony Foresta, Municipal Waste are not only known for their live shows but also for bringing comedic lyrics to hardcore. In 2010, Municipal Waste signed to Nuclear Blast Records and released their latest studio album The Fatal Feast in 2012.
Playing before Municpal Waste will be Dallas-based crossover thrash band Power Trip. Formed in 2008, their music is an intense fusion of classic hardcore, punk, and metal. The group will be performing in support of their latest release, Manifest Decimation, out now via Southern Lord Records.
Houston-based noise-rapper B L A C K I E… All Caps, With Spaces (aka Michael LaCour) opens the showcase. He combines hip-hop, Minor Threat-like screams, spoken word and socially conscious lyrics with modern thrash. It is a rarely heard, often misunderstood genre that is best represented on his latest release, Fuck The False.
