Tonight at Holy Mountain rapper Casual from the legendary Oakland-based Hieroglyphics crew is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his iconic debut album, Fear Itself. The concert is part of his current eight city tour with Compton’s Quanstar and Coach K, Mississippi-based emcee Mr. Franklin (Kamikaze of Crooked Lettaz) and Oakland-based D’Labrie. Austin hip-hop fave p-Tek opens tonight’s show. What better way to celebrate one of hip-hop’s best albums?
Released in 1994 via Jive Records, Fear Itself peaked on the charts at #108. The success was spearheaded by singles “That’s How It Is” and “I Didn’t Mean To.” Not that the charts mattered much then to hip-hop fans or matter at all nowadays, it is worth noting Fear Itself is the second-highest charting Hieroglyphics album to date. That says a lot considering this is the same crew that has Del Tha Funky Homosapien and Souls of Mischief. Its popularity stands the test of time and forever keeps Casual in the minds and ears of underground hip-hop fans everywhere.
Holy Mountain is located at 617 E. 7th Street. Doors open at 8 p.m. 18+ welcome. Advance tickets are available for purchase online here.
