Cinema East Austin has been going strong this summer with film festival favorites. On Aug. 4, Cinema East presents We Always Lie to Strangers along with a pre-screening of the short film Social Butterfly.
As always, Cinema East surprises us with fun filled nights and sometimes directors and actors of the film surprise visit the audience. We Always Lie to Strangers co-director AJ Schnack will be in attendance for a Q & A after the screening.
We Always Lie to Strangers is a documentary featured story of family, community, music and tradition set in Branson, Missouri, one of America’s largest tourist destinations. Branson, like Austin, is home to many musicians that bring tourists and revenue to their city, making it “The Live Music Capital of the World.” The shows and people of the community are known for their family and traditional values that illuminates through their entertainment. No cussing, no nudity, no gambling, no offenses (total 180 compared to Austin). Directors AJ Schnack and David Wilson captured four families who perform and live there.
The feature documentary was screened during a South by Southwest 2013 event and now Cinema East is bringing the film to Austinites at a pay-what-you-can cost from $2-5. The film stars at 8 p.m. with a post-screening Q & A. BYOB for you beer movie kind of watching peeps. Cinema East Austin events are held at the French Legislation Museum located at 802 San Marcos Street and dogs are allowed on the lawn!
