Austin Film Fest’s Made in Texas Family Series presents their second film, The Rookie. AFF invites moviegoers to join director John Lee Hancock for a Q&A panel on June 1. It’s baseball, it’s free and it’s a chance to meet the director.
Director John Lee Hancock is best known for The Rookie and The Blind Side. Both films capture a remarkable tale about people pursuing their dreams, even if they seem unreachable. Oh, and of course sports.
The Rookie, based on a true story, captures a rare story about a Texas baseball coach making it to the big leagues. After his speech about following your dreams, “If you don’t have any dreams, you don’t have anything,” his players decided to make him a deal. If they work hard enough to become district champions, he has to try out for a major league baseball team. The film stars Dennis Quaid, Angus T. Jones and Chad Lindberg.
The film is scheduled to screen at Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum at 3 p.m. The event is free and open to people of all ages. There will be a post screening Q&A panel. Feel free to bring your baseball caps and your questions! For more updates on the event and future films throughout the summer visit AFF’s website and Facebook event.
