On Saturday, Apr. 13, Red River Noise and Eye In The Sky are presenting the fourth installment of the Future on Indie showcase series at Frank. Aimed at promoting up-and-coming indie bands and supporting local independent venues, the fourth Future of Indie installment will feature young bands from three cities and two countries. Sure you may not have heard of many of the bands we’ll feature in the series, but we assure you that the talent is top quality and soon to take off in popularity.
Opening the showcase is Austin-based O Conqueror. Established in 2011, the group has already received praise from some of the best musicians and local radio personalities, including Matt Noveskey of Blue October and Matt Parmenter of Quiet Company. Their contemporary sound and dreamlike vocals offer a fresh new voice in the flooded Austin indie scene. O Conqueror perform at 10 p.m.
Mexico City inide-psych rockers Sour Soul are no stranger to Austin but still relatively unknown. Their live show is comparable to the likes of popular bands like Bright Light Social Hour but with Latin percussion. Fear not if you do not speak or understand Spanish, as Sour Soul’s music is all in English. Frontman Marco Paul has real rock star presence and is good looking enough to steal your girlfriend, or so our female staff has always told me. Sour Soul is currently on tour in support of what may be their best release yet, Kill-A-Head. See Mexico’s next big thing take the stage at 11 p.m.
Headlining the night’s showcase is Hydra Melody, San Antonio’s answer to bands like Cursive and Minus The Bear. Already a hometown favorite for almost seven years, Hydra Melody also chalked up extensive hometown airplay on San Antonio’s 99.5 KISS-FM and 90.1 KSYM-FM in 2012. They recently debuted their first song off their upcoming debut on Alt Press and were part of our debut Future of Indie showcase during Free Week in January. Hydra Melody perform at midnight.
Frank is located at 4th and Colorado. Doors open at 9 p.m. Music at 10 p.m. All ages welcome. Cover is $6 at the door or $4 with Facebook RSVP here.
