This Saturday we are happy to present our next installment of our “Future of Indie” series with our first showcase at the iconic Guadalupe Street venue, Hole In The Wall. Our goal with the live music showcase series is to spotlight young up-and-comers or lesser known bands that we feel our readers and specifically music fans in Austin need to discover. The other component of the series is to provide the bands with top billing on weekend nights at reputable venues around town.
Saturday’s headliner is a band we’ve worked with for about a year now that is still somewhat under the radar here in Austin. Post-punk/new wave indie band Knifight opened our show with Sorne last year and has only improved ever since, even expanding into a quintet. Their music is reminiscent of what I would have heard on MTV in the early ’80s with slightly darker angst. Experience Knifight live at midnight.
Making an Austin tour stop at the showcase is San Antonio atmospheric-indie trio Pop Pistol. The group is last year’s winner of the local alt-weekly’s (Current) “best indie band” award and performed at our Future of Indie Free Week debut in January. On tour in support of their latest release, Animal Prisms, Pop Pistol perform at 11 p.m.
Opening Saturday’s showcase is Austin-based indie-electro duo End Wave. Composed of John Aldrige and Joe Gardner, End Wave mixes up EDM with elements of hip hop and dubstep to create their own unique, high energy sound. Read more about End Wave in our December feature here. End Wave perform at 10 p.m.
Hole In The Wall is located at 2538 Guadalupe Street. Doors open at 9 p.m. Music at 10 p.m. 21+ welcome. Cover is $5 at the door or $3 with Facebook RSVP here.
