Now that the wave of South by Southwest has left us drained, head out to the now nationally famous corner bar, Metal and Lace. Take a breath and rehydrate with a little Dick Dale-inspired reverb to whisk us away to palm trees, beautiful sandy beaches, surf and fruity refreshing drinks while enjoying some Texas surf rock.
The line-up includes King Pelican, who is an instrumental-rocking outfit from San Antonio who captures the essence of classic surf. These veterans of the South Texas music scene know how to add a little thunder in their bass to go with their signature reverb drenched guitar sound.
Austin-based Los Super Avengers bring the sinister-surf mixed with the traditional, making a classic sound all their own. With a mysterious edge of sporting luchador masks, Los Super Avengers look like a band of identity-hidden super heroes armed with a guitar but without the estretchy pants.
Finally, Austin-based The Mighty Landsharks also have a flare for the classic with a rocking rumba influence to go with some hot rod style guitar lines.
Metal and Lace (Headhunters) is located at 720 Red River. Doors at 9 p.m. Music at 10 p.m. No Cover. 21+ are welcome.
