The North Door invites movie-goers to their weekly Free Film Tuesdays event that includes an action packed superhero theme, prizes, face painting, and live performances. On Tuesday, Jan. 29, Free and Queer Cinema along with AGLIFF-Polari present Madame X.
The non-profit organization and film festival Polari, formerly known as AGLIFF (Austin Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival) is teaming up with Free and Queer Cinema. This week Free and Queer Cinema is hosted by Rebecca Havemeyer. She has been voted the ‘Best Drag Queen’ for three years in a row by the Austin Chronicle. Special guests for the pre-screening include Zane Coxx, Fantasy, and Marcus Sanchez. Zane Coxx is Austin’s very own transgender who is a two-time winning TCW (Total Championship Wrestling) woman’s champion. A live performance by Fantasy include superhero themed songs to compliment the superhero themed movie. Marcus Sanchez is the artist of the night, he will be doing the free face painting, which will also be inspired by the superhero theme.
Director Lucky Kuswandi captures a story larger than the superhero behind the mask. The Indonesian film shines light to the gay and lesbian community. Madame X is a story about a flamboyant hairdresser by day and superhero by night. The story follows Adam, the hairdresser/superhero who encounters bullying and feels inspired to take action to protect others experiencing the same treatment.
