On Saturday November 17, Oak is Keeping headlines the next installment of the 101x Homegrown Live series at ND studios. Support comes from Language Room, Calm Blue Sea and Diesel and Dixie. A mix of heavy infused blues rock, indie, instrumental and fuzz should make for one great night of live music. If you are from out of town this weekend for the big race and want to experience “Austin music,” this is a great event for you.
Austin-based indie band Language Room are a local must see. Full of colorful notes that fill every corner of your ear space, their music is approachable indie for alternative rock fans, incorporating an array of musical tastes with an edge. Language room is performing in support of their latest release, Skin & Heart & Lungs.
Austin’s Calm Blue Sea, which is an appropriate name for the group, is a staff favorite. The calm before the storm more like. Their instrumental post-rock sounds are filled with so much emotion, that it’s a literally a mind-jogging journey into the unknown, but soothes the soul in the process. Their latest release, Arrivals & Departures, was released in October on Modern Outsider.
Co-headliners Diesel and Dixie crank it up with their heavy-blues influenced rock and southern draw to go with a taste of some real big city punk. They are a perfect compliment for headliners Oak is Keeping. Locally-based and ready to rock, these guys could be Queens of the Stone Age’s brother or first cousins with The Toadies. One minute heavy guitar fuzz and the next, ’60s inspired Brit-pop from the late ’80s and early ’90s, back again to heavy blues-rock inspired riffs. All of these bands coming together for your listening pleasure for a mere $8.
