A few days ago, I called out Austin Culturemap for incorrectly stating that Austin doesn’t care about hip-hop music (if you haven’t peeped that yet, hit it up here). Well folks, it seems like we in the 512 are getting the chance to prove that there are some serious hip-hop heads up in the ATX this week! The local scene-builders who bring you AustinHipHopScene.com (AHHS) are throwin’ their Monthly Mixtape Showcase Party at Red 7 this Thursday November 8, and they’re bringing not one, not two, but TEN damn local artists together. Now tell me there ain’t any hip-hop in Austin.
The show is presented by AHHS’ Minto Tsai and p-tek, founder of the Austin Mic Exchange, and as they say, “This show is not just any show, it is a celebration of the diverse Hip Hop landscape here in Austin. It is a chance for us to shine.” This show is a chance to see some of the acts from the AHHS mixtape series, which you can subscribe to through e-mail here, do their thang live, and it promises to bury any remaining notions that Austin isn’t all about that good damn hip-hop. It also falls two days after election night, meaning it’s a great spot to either keep the celebration goin’ or drown your sorrows in booze and beats, depending on who you’re rootin’ for.
Doors are at 9 p.mm at Red 7 on 7th Street for this mother, and it’s $5 for 21+ and $7 for all other ages. Check the line-up below and the Facebook event page here, and if you’re in the mood for a preview of summa these acts, getcha ears some audio delight by headin’ to the event page on Red 7’s site here. To the beat, ya’ll! See you there.
