Shit is getting’ real weird up in Austintown this week, what with the estimated 300k fancy-folk comin’ in for that car race thingy. There are parties like whoa goin’ on surrounding the event, but most of ’em are either freakishly expensive (the $50,000 VIP ticket event…yeah) or feature acts that were washed up twenty years ago (Aerosmith and Cheap Trick? Is this 1979?). If you’re an outta-towner or a local who’s looking for a little more musical bang for your buck, however, there are options that won’t cost you a month or two of rent and will probably kick the living hell out of those big ass corporate shindigs. One such option just so happens to be a guy we talked about not too long ago, the Austin MC and battle-rapper extraordinaire Phranchyze, who’s playing a show on Saturday November 17 at Stubb’s.
As opposed to all that other hoopla, Phran’s show is only gonna cost fans a mere $5, and for that you get not only one of this city’s most talented homegrown performers, you also get fellow 512 hip-hop artists Dubb Sicks, Kydd Jones and The LNS Crew. Austin-dwellers already know that Stubb’s is one of those oh-so-Austin spots that’s famous for not only its barbeque, but its shows, so for you temporary Austinites, this is the place to go to get some true Texas flavor while you’re in town. Of course you could go spend a whole shitload of money to hang out with people who don’t live here in places that aren’t even venues on normal days, but you’re a person of taste and distinction that wants to be involved with the actual music scene in Austin, so why would you do that? Buy tickets here, and doors are at 9 p.m. for the November 17 show, which is right on Red River Street in the heart of the downtown party district.
