This weekend, Lucy The Poodle Productions and the 29th Street Hot Burrito present the third annual Ditch the Fest Fest, which showcases 49 Austin bands spread along the night on four stages, throughout the course of two days. Ditch the Fest Fest is an excellent alternative and/or addition to the Austin City Limits Festival, with the convenient price of $5 per day.
The eclecticism of this event is unfathomable—which is what is to be expected with an event hosting 49 local acts. On Friday, the Ballroom Main Stage is featuring Bobby Jealousy and local teenage sweethearts Residual Kid; the Ballroom Bar Stage will be hosting lo-fi/pop-rock band The Cocker Spaniels. At the Chapel, charismatic and energetic experimental rock band Superlitebike will be performing before the folk-revival quartet Hello Wheels. Meanwhile, at the Spiderhouse stage there will be performances by Co-pilot, Alaskan and Megafauna. Closing out day one and the wrapping up the Chapel will be the impressive one-man-band, composed of the finely-dressed, rowdy, and talented Henry Roland of Henry + The Invisibles.
The excitement continues on Saturday with even more local gems performing on the main stage, such as Burgess Meredith, creative indie-rock band Les RAV, and The Calm Blue Sea who released their latest masterpiece, Arrivals & Departures, just this week. The Small Stage includes pure lo-fi with Watch Out For Rockets, and raw rock ‘n’ roll/blues with The Couch. The event will be closing out at the Spiderhouse Bar with KNIFIGHT and indie-rock/folk quartet The Baker Family.
Spider House and the Spider House Ballroom is located at 2908 Fruth St. Doors at 5 p.m., music starts at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 per day for all ages. Click on the links for the event pages on Do512 and Facebook.
