On Saturday, Eye in the Sky Collective and Jack Valen will present Folk of July Fest at Mohawk. The celebration, sponsored in part by Do512, Red River Noise and Never Hungover, will highlight the criminally overlooked local musicians of folk, bluegrass and rock ‘n’ roll. Folk of July will feature 11 bands and singer-songwriters on both Mohawk’s indoor and outdoor stages.
As a sponsor, we’re happy to be giving away a pair of tickets this Friday, the day before the show, on our Facebook page. All you have to do is click “Like” on the post when you see it on our Facebook wall to enter your name into our drawing. If you see multiple posts, you’re more than welcome to enter the contest more than once. We will draw and announce the winner Friday at 6 p.m. Please note that this giveaway only applies to fans in Central Texas that are capable of making it to the show.
Kicking off the evening will be Dana Falconberry, with her orchestral and flawlessly crafted lo-fi folk style. Since her latest release, Though I Didn’t Call It Came, Falconberry has been featured on and praised by KUT, Pop Matters and Daytrotter. Following Dana Falconberry will be folksy pop singer Josh Halverson, San Francisco folk-rockers Leopold and his Fiction, Nigerian-born/Austin-based singer-songwriter Kalu James and old-time string ensemble The Austin Steamers. Slowtrain and their soulful rock stylings will close out the outdoor stage, with a sound accentuated by piano and organ. The closing set for the night on the indoor stage will be the folk-revival quartet Hello Wheels, bringing their stomp-folk style to the festival. The band appeals to the ears and heart with eclectic harmonies with their tender sounds of old-soul wrapped up in an upbeat folk style with their flawless use of the acoustic guitar, banjo, upright bass, percussion and brass. The folk celebration will be ending on fun and playful cadence of Hello Wheels’ stomp-folk.
