There are so many damn rock bands in this town that it shouldn’t be a tragedy to see one end. But it sucks to see a band like Planets call it quits. The all-female garage-punk quartet is playing its last show tonight.
Aside from being the rare all-female band in a male-centric genre, Planets bring swagger to a style of music that demands it. This power and confidence really shines on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs-esque track “Doctor Disappearing” from Planets’ self-titled EP, which you can purchase via Bandcamp. The EP as a whole is catchy as hell and the kind of record you play loud, on repeat, while jumping up and down on your bed (if that’s your thing).
Planets say goodbye tonight at Beerland. This mammoth bill includes lo-fi garage-rockers A Giant Dog, Golden Boys guitarist John Wesley Coleman, fuzzed-out lo-fi San Antonio trio Eets Feats and female-fronted punk trio Sexploits (formerly known as Free Beer). Show up around 9 p.m. if you want to catch all five bands.
