Transmission Entertainment presents a fascinating residency to hold the Austin community over until March. Beginning tonight through the February 24, every Wednesday night, Transmission will be presenting Har Mar Superstar and Marijuana Deathsquads on a weekly basis at The Mohawk. In addition, each will week will feature a supporting act– promising a different vibe, feel, sonorous experience each week of the residency.
Headlining the residency is pop/electronic musician, Har Mar Superstar, composed of Sean Tillman. In the last few years, Tillman has been occupied with his other projects, Sean Na Na and Neon Neon— receiving nominations for the 2008 Mercury Music Prize– and launching his career as an actor and screenwriter in Whip It and Lovely, Still. In the few years, Tillman has written and worked on 9 new tracks and developed a once-abandoned album that is now Dark Touches. that was released in late ‘09.
Also performing on a weekly basis is electronic/hardcore, all-star group, Marijuana Deathsquads. The band is composed of aggressive vocals, multiple drummers, and complex, electronic beats capturing the unique essence of electronica/hardcore. Without a doubt there is nothing like this experience out there. Feed your curiosity by listening to their latest album, Crazy Master, which was released in late November of 2011.
The additional supporting bands include Butcher Bear, Zorch, and Geof Millions. For the week of February 1st– and the premier of the residency– the line-up will include soul/electronica musician and Insect Records client, Butcher Bear. The following week, (February 8) will add to the residency experimental band, Zorch. Lastly, the third week (February 15) will include Geoff Millions of Fresh Millions).
At the end of the month (February 24), Transmission is presenting a large outdoor showcase featuring the residency and Minneapolis-based electronica/soul, Polica. The suddenly high-profiled band has caught a lot of steam in the last few months– releasing teaser tracks and singles that are picking up fans left and right. Currently, the band has been featured on NPR. The band is considered a project composed of Channy (vocals), Drew Christopher (percussion), Ben Ivascu (percussion) Chris Bierden (bass and vocals) and Ryan Olson (studio controls). The band’s debut full record will be released February 14.
