Big Sir releases 'Before Gardens After Gardens'
Written by Eli Watson.Big Sir fans rejoice: the moment you have all been waiting for has finally happened. Big Sir, the collaboration between The Mars Volta's Juan Alderete and singer-songwriter Lisa Papineau (commonly known as a contributing vocalist to group M83) have released their latest album, Before Gardens After Gardens, worldwide today. The album is streaming in its 11-song entirety on AOL Spinner all week.
Since the group's debut back in 2000, Big Sir have had quite the unpredictable journey. From Alderete and Papineau sharing similar, life-threatening illnesses, to such becoming a focal point of their latest album, the duo have managed to create something beautiful out of it. "The fear and uncertainty that we all face in contemplation of death, and the varying ways we all make peace with it is the basis of the album's overall concept," explains Papineau. "It's an album of dance and celebration in death's insistent embrace." Before Gardens After Gardens is a celebration; though Big Sir's musical lair comes off as dark and mysterious, it takes the listener into the unknown, guiding them until they finally find their way out, only to be compelled to enter again.
Along with the group's release, Big Sir will be hitting the road in February, doing a couple of shows in Los Angeles before heading to Europe and the UK. Listen to Before Gardens After Gardens below.
